Purple, Phthalo blue, Black“Luci del Nord” is one of the first works I created in 2024. It emerged during a period of painting experimentation, during which I was seeking subjects, techniques, and color combinations that would help me understand the language of oil color more fully and its effects on the canvas. This piece has been a useful exercise for me: I worked on juxtaposing different tonalities and on using various techniques to create soft gradients and gradual transitions between light and shadow. The aim was to observe how colors interact with each other and to experiment with possible combinations.
I drew inspiration from the Northern Lights and the Milky Way, choosing a simple subject but rich in technical possibilities. I wanted to create a work that would let me practice the ability to build light through color and to work on nuances and chromatic transitions. This painting was particularly interesting to make, because it allowed me to focus on learning and painting experimentation without the pressure to reach perfection or the sought-after detail. In 'Northern Lights' color is the real protagonist of the work.
