WhiteNike Ala is a sculpture created through 3D modeling and printing that isolates one of the most powerful and recognizable elements of the Nike of Samothrace: the wing. Separated from the original figure, the wing loses its anatomical function to become an autonomous sculptural form. The rhythm of the feathers, their overlapping, and the movement of the surface create a volume that evokes lightness and momentum despite the solidity of the material. The work focuses attention on a single fragment of the classical sculpture, transforming it into a contemporary object and allowing the detail to symbolically convey the entire figure.
The idea stems from an observation of the Nike of Samothrace and the desire to explore its beauty through its individual elements. The wing represents movement, victory, and momentum, but it is also an extraordinary sculptural construction. Isolating it means removing it from the original narrative and allowing its form to take on a new meaning. Nike Ala thus emerged as a study of the fragment: the idea that a part can preserve the memory of the whole and, at the same time, become something new. Through 3D printing, a detail from the great Hellenistic sculpture is recontextualized and transformed into a small, contemporary sculptural piece.
