Red, Burnt sienna, GrayThe series dedicated to the Aghoris explores one of the most enigmatic and controversial traditions of India. Radical followers of the cult of Shiva, the Aghoris live on the fringes of society to embrace a spiritual path based on overcoming all duality: pure and impure, life and death, sacred and profane. In my works, I wanted to capture this mystical and visceral tension, transforming it into essential forms and a visual language that reflects their extreme quest for inner freedom. The faces, postures, and symbols evoke a journey into the shadow, where the limit becomes revelation and darkness becomes a gateway to the sacred.
Before my trip to India in 2024, I created a series of watercolors to get me into the mood. I didn't know what to expect from India, and what I discovered was much larger than my imagination.
